A Clean Colon Is A Happy Colon

Why would a person even consider a home remedy colon cleanser? Only 2 reasons I can think of. Improved health and upcoming surgery. We won’t touch on the surgical reason here. The other reason is “preventive maintenance”.

There’s a tee-time, and then there’s tea-time. Nobody thinks of tea as a colon-related product but there are teas that detox. As in: have a laxative effect. Not 4, Not 5, But 6 Ways To Lose Stomach Fat!

2 “No-No”s And 4 “Yeah-Yeah”s

In this order: No, Yeah, No, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah. The 2 forbidden ones will admittedly take discipline, but the sweetness of victory (less/no belly fat) will remain long after the bitterness of denial is forgotten. Shakespeare, I believe. No, Bob Dylan. 

1. Carbs: How Low Can You Go?

Well, going to 0 carbs isn’t necessary or sane, but when trying to lose stomach fat the lower the better. A low-carb diet is not just hype. Numerous reputable studies have shown the power of such a method. Don’t believe me? Read on.

9 or 10 studies may be numerous to some, but how about 23? You can read a brief synopsis of those studies at this site. You would think that to help lose stomach fat you would us e a low fat diet, not  a low-carb diet. Eau contraire, as the studies demonstrate.

Some of the studies, interestingly, allowed the low-carb group to eat as much as desired, but put caloric restrictions on the low-fat subjects. The low-carb approach still gave superior results.

Part of the reason for low-carb success is that when less carbs are consumed, there is a corresponding decrease in appetite. Diminish hunger and you diminish intake. Ergo, lose stomach fat. Elementary, Watson.

Everyone knows that water weight loss isn’t as desirable as fat loss. However, the psychological water loss “pat on the back” quickly given on the low-carb diet just helps us stick to a fat-burning low-carb victory. Booyah!

What a low-carb diet seems to do is remove fat specifically from critical areas. The liver: a critical area, agreed? A study respected enough to be referred to on a government website concluded that a low-carb diet decreased fat on the liver in subjects with “fatty liver disease”. Go to this site for that study and look at “Conclusions”. It’s in “medicalese” but specific. Low-carb is beneficial, and not just to lose stomach fat.

And since today’s subject is stomach fat, (the stomach being a critical health area), that fat also is noticeably removed by a low-carb approach to eating.

Sometimes a little help/push in the right direction gets the locomotive going. Seeing that appealing simple menu might be the boost you need to lose your stomach fat.

2. Fiber: Not Just For Clothing Anymore

Back in my day we called it “roughage”. But times were different. It was a “rough age”. Today it’s called “fiber”. Eating fiber-type foods is great for weight loss and in order to lose stomach fat, with a little twist.

The twist is that there is great fiber, and greaterer fiber. (not a typo) The fiber that is best for weight loss is “viscous” fiber. Viscous fiber unites with water/fluid internally and forms a slightly thick pastey glob that takes its sweet time digesting.

“And, eat2bthin, this is good why?” you ask. “Why is this important to lose stomach fat?”

Because this temporary roadblock makes us feel full longer which means we slow down or stop the eating frenzy. At least a little. Not to mention the eventual “exit” of the fiber and its (ahem) cleansing tendencies. Oh dear, that was uncomfortable to type.

Since I’ve already opened the can of worms called “clinical studies” if you go to this respected source it concludes that the addition of 14 grams of fiber daily (about 1/2 ounce) is linked to a 10% decrease in calories eaten and also losing 4 1/2 pounds in 4 months. A keeper!

As usual, fruits and veggies to the fibrous rescue! Legumes and oats are also good sources. Brussel sprouts, turnips, sweet potatoes and asparagus are at the top of the leaderboard. If you want to lose stomach fat, these are vital.

In closing , you might want to check out glucomannan. It’s available as a supplement. It is one of the most viscous dietary fibers you’ll find anywhere. Fun fact: glucomannan is the main ingredient in shirataki noodles.

3. Protein Is Part Of The “End Game” 


It’s jet fuel for the body! If you want to cruise in the health “fast lane” you can’t gas up on 89 octane food. Protein is premium petrol, man. We already know it’s energy in edible form, and to lose stomach fat, it’s vital.

I don’t cite and quote numerous detailed clinical studies, but I will mention one in particular. This study established a tie between protein consumption and reduced abdominal fat. In its discussion at the end (basically its synopsis), it pointed out the study’s data as indicating that protein intake “may play an important role in regulating CAF, which is a strong independent marker for disease and mortality.” Translation?

A protein-rich diet helps control Central Abdominal Fat (CAF), and that belly fat contributes to making us sickly and dead. That’s a good reason to lose stomach fat. Just for the record, here’s the study, if you’re dying to read some spellbinding literature.

Hmmm…Protein, protein, wherefore art thou, protein? Answer: find and consume protein from the usual suspects: meat, seafood, poultry, fish, eggs, and dairy foods. Raw and /or unprocessed is best, because man’s food processing plants haven’t improved on nature’s nutrition factories. The mission to lose stomach fat is sometimes just basic!

Yeah, I know. It’s not always conveeeeeeeeeeeeenient to eat and/or prepare that stuff. Thank goodness for man’s processing efforts, which I just ridiculed. Because there are supplements around like whey protein, which are excellent for people on the go, like us.

4. Sugar: Good For The Archies, Bad For The Belly


Remember “Sugar Sugar” by The Archies in the 60’s? It was written for The Monkees to do. It was sickeningly sweet and dangerous, just like real sugar. Real sugar that’s gonna mess up your plan to lose stomach fat. Avoid sugar like you would disco.

In 1977, by means of a Senate Select Subcommittee, the United States Government created the “Dietary Goals For The United States” report, which brought about the “fat is bad” trend. (You can read and even download it by clicking here. It’s interesting, really).

In real terms, this meant eggs, cholesterol, meat, butter, etc. These guidelines are based in a measure of wisdom, but watch out for the law of unintended consequences.

As expected, the food industry complied and brought a plethora of low-fat “health foods” to the market, which removed a lot of that thing called “flavor”. Not very appealing or profitable. Hmmmmm……

The resulting flavor deficit is why the food industry added a whole bunch of sugar to their foods to compensate for the lack of fat. That’s why sugar a-plenty has been added to a lot more foods than we’d expect.

Sugar is so embedded in American cuisine that every 7 hours or so each American consumes the sugar equivalent of a 12 ounce soda. 200 years ago it took 5 days to do that, according to this doctor.

It has also been estimated that the average American consumes about 355 calories per day in sugar! That’s about 70 pounds annually! No wonder it’s hard to lose stomach fat.

This relates to stomach fat because excess sugar consumption overwhelms the liver with fructose (a form of sugar). What it can’t convert to useful things it converts to fat. And where is that fat prone to land ? Yeah, the stomach. So sad.

The Sweet Conclusion

This national sugar overdose is visible in an obesity problem and throngs of people looking for diets that work fast for belly fat. If you’re looking to lose stomach fat, lose  the sugar habit!

5. Aerobic Exercise

You knew that action is required to lose stomach fat! You tried to block it out of your mind. You can run, but you can’t hide. In fact, you should run. That’s a great aerobic exercise.

Aerobic means “relating to, involving, or requiring free oxygen”. Its aim is to force the body to utilize more oxygen through mild or strenuous activity. Aerobics have a beneficial effect on the path to lose stomach fat.

Let’s not confuse aerobics to reduce stomach fat with a psychotic blizzard of crunches to employ a “spot reduction” strategy. Uhhhh……doesn’t work too well. Or at all. Look at the middle few sentences of this clinical study, it says so. But if you go crunch-crazy, you’ll at least be more muscular. You’ll have that goin’ for ya’. Which is nice.

Visceral Adipose Tissue. You know, belly fat. This study has data showing that “aerobic exercise is central for exercise programmes aimed at reducing VAT” and you can quote me on that. Why not, I just quoted them! AKA aerobics helps you lose stomach fat.

There is a journal called Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine. An article there revealed that chemicals in honey called polyphenols help keep various types of cancer cells from reproducing. In the 1940s antibiotics began to be used in treating burns and wounds. Prior to that honey was the accepted dressing called for. Antibiotic applications and creams harm healthy cells. The importance of honey is that it does no such thing. Which is why, on top of its culinary uses, honey, in one or more of its types (more on that later) is used by the medical industry. Hey! What About Hay Fever? (Allergies)?

One of the best honey uses: Did you ever hear about how if you eat a teaspoon of local honey everyday for _____ years, any pollen-related allergies you had would clear up? I always heard it was 2 years. Since clinical testing for this was never carried on (no financial reason to do testing, I guess) science “authorities” are ambivalent about the validity of doing this. But for a healthy adult with allergies, it’s a tasty test to perform.

If you go to and search for “honey” you’ll see a list towards the bottom of 11 types of honey. But it’s generally sold/marketed in the following 3 forms:

Comb Honey

We can call this: Pure. Uncut. Raw. The Good Stuff. Comb honey is that and more. Like plucking an apple off a tree and taking a bite. As natural as natural can be, the hexagonal honeycomb is part of raw honey (technically), and ,weirdly enough, is just as edible as the honey within. And with sanitary packaging, it’s for sale by real live companies. Healthy enzymes, pollen, etc.  Sweeeeeeeeeeeet!!!!

Processed Honey 

Talk about an eye-opening experience! Honey, and its production and marketing for sale, is a more complex subject than I thought when researching this article. (It ain’t like growing and selling tomatoes!) When raw honey is “processed”, microfiltering and heating it yields a food that evidently bears little nutritional resemblance to its raw counterpart. By nature, processing honey uses methods that vastly decrease its nutritional value. Essentially, health experts highly recommend raw over processed. Colony Collapse Disorder. That’s the name given to a recent frightening trend that is mysteriously causing bee colonies to slow production and even cease to function. Some analysts think it may be due in part to the use of commercial insecticides. Neonicotinoids, as they’re called, were banned in the European Union for just that reason. To do our part to preserve bees/hives/colonies/honey, we can purchase produce from organic farms that shun such pesticides, and likewise honey from local beekeepers who have gone organic. “Does _____ Contain Gluten?” Read This! Wow!

It’s Just Gluten, Not Rocket Surgery!

If the issue of gluten is in your daily life, you’ll like this article for its simplicity. Why that color for simplicity? Couldn’t tell ya. But if you suffer from celiac disease, knowing what foods to avoid should be an easy process. This info should help.  

Gluten: Not Omnipresent

The presence of gluten, to someone with celiac disease, is annoying but it’s not in all tasty and nutritious foods. In fact, it’s only found in the “grain” family, biologically speaking. (Also known as the grass family, if you’re the least bit curious.) But not every member of the grain family contains gluten. Just like all the members of your own “family tree” have DNA connections, but not all of them are irritating. Just some. Here’s the list of the irrititating “evil 6”:

  • Wheat
  • Rye
  • Barley
  • Triticale
  • Spelt
  • Kamut

 I don’t know about you, but if I had celiac disease, avoiding triticale and kamut would be easy. I never heard of ’em!  But the other 4 are very common and would seem difficult to live without. But wait!!! There’s great news of similar foods that can easily fill the void left by  the absence of the “evil6”.   

The Beneficial Bunch (more than 6 for sure)

Thankfully there are many foods, that are also vegan in nature, that are gluten-free and tasty replacements.


Yes, oats are gluten free. However, it’s good to recognize that if oats are processed in a facility that also processes gluten-containing grains, there could be cross-contamination. Also, a protein found in oats named “avenin” is biochemically similar to gluten, so if you have celiac disease you may have a reaction to avenin. You’d be safest consulting a health care professional re: that. I’m just sayin’.

Corn (Maize) 

Fear not, lovers of that which covers the cob! (Shakespeare?) Gluten is not, I repeat: not found in corn!

Whatever amaranth is, it doesn’t contain gluten. Why? Because it, like quinoa, is part of the “amaranth” family, not the grain family. So chow down on amaranth, kids…….And in a meaningless BTW, quinoa and amaranth are called “pseudograins” because of their resemblance to grains. But they’re just posers.

Fruits and Vegetables

This should make your gluten problem muuuuuuch easier: there is no gluten in fruits and vegetables. As it turns out, they’re great for health. If only our parents had always told us to eat them. nyuk nyuk


Yes and no. Yes, I am unhinged. And no, nuts do not contain gluten.


No, with an explanation, your honor. Seeds (pecans, walnuts, almonds) contain 0 gluten UNLESS they come from the “evil 6” mentioned above. So eat all the chia, sesame, pumpkin, sunflower, hemp, flax, and poppy seeds you want.

Algae and Sea Vegetables

Jump in, the water’s fine! These too are gluten-free.

Legumes (last but not least)

Waist Loss, Want It Lost?

The sixth sick sheikh’s sheep…….”Now stop that!!!” (talking to myself) Today, boys and girls, we”ll discuss weight loss through blood, sweat, and tears. Focusing on the “sweat” part. Using a waist belt. Seriously. They’re all over the TV. I saw one on my local Spanish channel. “Mi estomago es muy grande”. Otherwise known as, my stomach is very large. Time to deal with that. With a waist belt.

“To Buy, Or Not To Buy?” (Shakespeare & Me)

News flash: nothing is perfect! Anything you can think of as perfect I can point out a downside to. Try me, I double-dog dare ya’! I’ll prove it with the waist belt designed to help us lose weight.

Get It Because:

  1. You lose weight! Well, you do! I know, sweat is almost all water. Water is not real weight loss. We want to burn fat, not just lose water. Yada yada yada. But psychologically, using a waist belt is a confidence booster. Always a plus!
  2. It’s reusable. Like any non-edible weight loss tool, you buy it once and use it over and over. A penny saved, waste not want not, etc. Of course, after using it you will wash it, right?
  3. A waist belt is cheaper than a treadmill. Research it. As usual, I’m right…………
  4. Some (most?) can be worn under our “street clothing”. So weight loss can be an all day event.
  5. Putting it on and taking it off is easy peasy cheddar cheesy.
  6. Storage? Come on now, it’s a bloomin’ waist belt! Store it anywhere. Quick and easy we aim to pleasy. Not exactly a minus.

 Forget It Because:

  1. Same ol’ sameol’ number 1: You’re only losing water weight. Not all that weight is really lost. Unlike disco, it’s coming back!    :+(
  2. Can’t think of a number 2.  Writer’s block, or ??????
